THE DENIED USE OF ARTICLES/EL USO NEGADO DE ARTÍCULOS
The definite article the and the indefinite articles a/an are often useful as determiners, which leave the nouns to which they apply well defined. However, they should not always be used.
El artículo definido the y los artículos indefinidos a/an son útiles en muchas ocasiones como determinantes, los cuales dejan bien definidos a los sustantivos a los cuales aplican. Sin embargo, no siempre deben usarse.
Nouns that do not use articles are the following:

Abstract nouns: A noun is abstract when it cannot be perceived by our five main senses.
Los sustantivos abstractos: Un sustantivo es abstracto cuando no puede ser percibido por nuestros cinco sentidos principales.

Fields of study: A field of study refers to a specific area of knowledge that encompasses a set of disciplines, topics, methods and approaches that share a common interest.
Campos de estudio: Un campo de estudio se refiere a un área específica de conocimiento que abarca un conjunto de disciplinas, temas, métodos y enfoques que comparten un interés común.

Exceptions/Excepciones:
Sometimes, the nouns mentioned above do have an article, but only when they act as adjectives
En ocasiones, los sustantivos mencionados anteriormente sí llevan artículo, pero solo cuando actúan como adjetivos
Examples:

a) The Spanish man came here this morning.
El español vino aquí esta mañana.
b) The boys passed the law exam.
Los chicos aprobaron el examen de leyes.
c) I'm missing the Scrabble piece.
Me falta la pieza del Scrabble.
These exceptions occur because the article refers to nouns instead of adjectives, since the adjectives are also applying to those nouns.
Estas excepciones suceden porque el artículo se refiere a los sustantivos en lugar de los adjetivos, ya que los adjetivos están aplicándose también a esos sustantivos.
