HACER SUGERENCIAS.

There is a set of questions whose intention is to give suggestions, as well as statements with the same intention. These questions start with the structures What if, Why don't, How about, Subject + suggest as follow:

What if: ¿Y si?/¿Qué pasaría si?
Why don't...: ¿Por qué no...?
How about...: ¿Qué tal si...?
Subject + suggest...: Yo sugiero, tú sugieres, él/ella/ésto sugiere, nosotros sugerimos, ustedes sugieren, ellos sugieren...

What if: What if we decide to go hiking in the mountains this weekend?
Why don't: Why don't we try out that new restaurant that opened downtown?
How about: How about we organize a meeting to discuss our ideas?
Subject + suggest: I suggest you consider the option of exercising regularly to improve your health.
Subject + suggest: He suggests that we should implement a new project management system in the company.

¿Y si decidimos hacer senderismo por la montaña este fin de semana?
¿Por qué no probamos ese nuevo restaurante que abrió en el centro?
¿Qué tal organizamos una reunión para discutir nuestras ideas?
Te sugiero que consideres la opción de hacer ejercicio regularmente para mejorar tu salud.
Él sugiere que deberíamos implementar un nuevo sistema de gestión de proyectos en la empresa.

How about can also be used with a gerund:

How about going for a walk in the park this evening?

In the case of suggest that, the verb in the second clause is in its base form, regardless of the subject:

                                           AG.3.2.3

I suggests (that) he study harder for the exam.

Notice how the verb "study" is in the base form even though it is in the presence of the third person singular (he).

Translate with the teacher the following sentences:

1. ¿Qué pasaría si tomamos un enfoque diferente para resolver este problema?

2. ¿Y si perdemos ese tren?

3. ¿Por qué no probamos una nueva receta para cenar esta noche?

4. ¿Por qué no le pides a tu jefe comentarios sobre tu proyecto?

5. ¿Qué tal si planeamos una escapada de fin de semana para relajarnos?

6. Sugiero que implementemos una sesión semanal de lluvia de ideas.

7. ¿Qué tal probar un enfoque diferente para resolver este problema?

8. Sugiero que ella que considere unirse al club para conocer gente nueva.

9. Sugiero que él empiece a ahorrar dinero para su futuro.

10. ¿Qué tal considerar diferentes opciones antes de tomar una decisión?
