Phrasal verbs
Los phrasal verbs son combinaciones verbales en inglés que incluyen una preposición o un adverbio junto con un verbo, formando significados diferentes a los verbos individuales. La presencia de un objeto directo influye en su estructura y significado.
Los verbos pueden combinarse con preposiciones como:
Into (en), onto (sobre), up (arriba), down (abajo), off (fuera de), out (fuera), among (entre).
También pueden combinarse con adverbios como:
Away (lejos), together (juntos), apart (separados), around (alrededor), aside (a un lado), along (junto a), entre otros.

PHRASAL VERBS FORMADOS CON EL VERBO LOOK
Separable Phrasal Verbs:
Look over: Examinar, comprobar
1) The lawyers looked over the papers carefully.
Los abogados revisaron los documentos cuidadosamente.
2) The lawyers look them over carefully.
Los abogados los revisan cuidadosamente.
Look up: Buscar en una lista
1) I looked up the numbers.
Busqué los números.
2) I looked them up.
Los busqué.
Inseparable Phrasal Verbs – Transitive:
Look after: Cuidar
1) My sister looks after my cousin.
Mi hermana cuida a mi primo.
2) She looks after her younger brother every afternoon.
Ella cuida a su hermano menor todas las tardes.
Look into: Investigar
1) The police look into the murder.
La policía investiga el asesinato.
2) The company decided to look into complaints from customers about the product.
La empresa decidió investigar las quejas de los clientes sobre el producto.
Look forward to: Tener ganas de, estar deseando
1) I look forward to meeting Anne.
Espero con ganas conocer a Anne.
2) I look forward to my vacation next month.
Espero con ganas mis vacaciones el próximo mes.
Look down on: Despreciar
1) George looks down on everyone who is smaller than him.
George menosprecia a todos los que son más pequeños que él.
2) She looks down on people who don't have a college education.

Look in on: Visitar (a alguien)
1) I'll look in on my neighbor to see if she needs any help.

Look out for: Ser cuidadoso, anticipar
1) A good teacher looks out for early signs of failure in their students.

2) Drivers should look out for pedestrians crossing the street.
Los conductores deben estar atentos a los peatones cruzando la calle.
Look up to: Respetar o admirar a alguien.
1) My little cousin looks up to me.

2) I've always looked up to my older brother for his wisdom and guidance.

Go over: Revisar
1) The students went over the material before the exam.
Los estudiantes repasaron el material antes del examen.

Go through: Pasar por una experiencia difícil o completar un proceso.
1) She went through a lot of challenges before achieving success.
Ella atravesó muchos desafíos antes de lograr el éxito.
2) They went through the application process for the job.
Ellos pasaron por el proceso de solicitud para el trabajo.
Inseparable Phrasal Verbs – Intransitive:
Go back: Volver
1) Mary went back home at 9pm.
Mary volvió a casa a las 9 p.m.
2) They decided to go back to their hometown after living abroad for many years2.

Go on: Continuar
1) I will go on with my work for one more hour.

Separable Phrasal Verbs:
Make up: Inventarse algo, mentir
1) She was in trouble, so she made up a story.

Estaba en problemas, así que lo inventó.
Make out: Descifrar, entender
1) He was so far, I didn’t make out what he said.
Estaba tan lejos que no entendí lo que dijo.

Inseparable Phrasal Verbs – Transitive:
Make sure of: Asegurarse, verificar
1) Please, make sure of the student’s identification before the exam.

2) Before leaving the house, make sure of the weather forecast.
Antes de salir de casa, asegúrate del pronóstico del tiempo.

Put away: Guardar, reservar
1) We put away money for our trip.
Guardamos dinero para nuestro viaje.

Lo guardamos para nuestro viaje.
Put off: Posponer
1) We asked the teacher to put off the exam.
Le pedimos al profesor que pospusiera el examen.

Put on: Vestirse, ponerse ropa

Turn out: Resultar
1) The event turned out to be a success.
El evento resultó ser un éxito.

Turn back: Retroceder, regresar
1) We had to turn back due to bad weather.
Tuvimos que retroceder debido al mal tiempo.

Turn around: Dar la vuelta, cambiar de dirección
