Imagining optimal conditions for climbing Everest
If we were in the context of climbing Everest, our decisions would be very different. If the rope were more durable, we could attempt to climb the steepest face of the glacier. If the camp were closer to the peak, we wouldn’t have to carry so much gear on each ascent. If the altimeter were more precise, we could measure our altitude accurately and adjust our climbing strategy.
If the tent were larger, we could store all the necessary climbing equipment without any issues. If the crevice in the rock were wider, we could use it as a foothold for the ascent, making the path to the summit easier. However, if the weather became more adverse, the gear might not be sufficient to continue. If the climbing equipment had more advanced features, we could face the challenges of Everest with greater confidence.
If the glacier had fewer crevasses, the route would be much safer and less unpredictable. If the climber had a clearer view of the peak, they could plan each stage of the climb better. Undoubtedly, these ideal conditions would completely change our experience on the mountain.
